Misao Tengan, who ran Kaohu Store in Wailuku for 61 years celebrated her 105th birthday on Nov. 19 with friends and relatives.

There was a lunch at Roselani Place and dinner at Tante’s restaurant with live music at both places by the group “Nevah Too Late.”

Tengan was born in Mana, Kauai in 1918. She married Yoshio Tengan.

In 1967 the couple built Kaohu Store, across the street from Iao Intermediate School. She ran Kaohu Store for 61 years.

After their four children left for college, the couple started traveling the world which included Spain, Portugal, Morocco, China, Okinawa, New Zealand and Egypt and also enjoyed dancing with neighbors on the weekends.

In 1997 Misao Tengan lost her husband and continued to operate the store. She now resides at Roselani Place. She has four children, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
